バリ島の食生活 Eating habits of Bali

　今回は日本とはちょっと違うバリ島の食生活について紹介します。
　バリの奥さん達は一日分の食事をまとめて朝に作ってしまいます。ご飯もいっぱい炊いて、おかずを何品かつくり、テーブルに並べて置いておきます。日本はみんなでテーブルに付いて、一斉に食事をとりますが、バリではみんなバラバラに食事をします。食べ方は自由で、地べたに座り込んで食べたりもします。
　食事の素材は朝、市場で買ってきた肉や魚、そして野菜。田舎には日本と違い冷蔵庫がないから、一日分の使う量だけ買い物します。その為、いつも新鮮でオイシイです。
　田舎ではヤシの皮とか木切れとかいっぱいあるから火を焚いて、かまどで料理をします。私がバリ島に行ったときは直火のバーベキューでしたが・・・
　料理は時間が経っても悪くならないように、油で揚げたり、香辛料をいっぱい入れた料理が多いですね。もともとバリの普通の家の料理はそんな感じです。
　田舎の方では、だいたい朝は子供たちは、甘いお菓子を食べます。もち米にココナツと砂糖がかかったモノとか、バナナを揚げたものとか。 日本みたいに給食はなく、渡されたお小遣いで自分で屋台みたいなところで食事を買って食べるか、学校が終ってから、家に帰ってきて食事を食べるようです。

　今回はバリ島でよく見かけるお供え物について紹介します。
　色とりどりの花などが盛られたヤシの葉で作った四角い皿が店の前、海岸、交差点、車の中など、バリ島を旅すると必ず目にするのが、チャナンとよばれるお供え物です。バリ島では各家、寺院など毎日大量のお供え物が作られており、主婦にとって最も時間のかかる仕事のようです。地面にあるチャナンは「悪霊」の為、地面より上にあるチャナンは「神様」の為のようです。
　チャナンは、毎日、聖水をふりかけて線香と一緒に供えられますが、掃除の際には捨てられます。その間、お供え物はほったらかしで、犬やニワトリが米粒を食べようとお構いなしです。ですので、散歩中にうっかり踏んづけても罰があたらないそうなのでご安心ください。しかしたまにお香や煙草に火がついてるのがあるので、やけどしないように気をつけましょう。
