バリ島でのコミュニケーションのツボ Vital point of communications in Bali

　今までバリ島の観光スポットをご案内してきましたが、今回はバリ島でのコミュニケーションについてご案内します。
　バリ人同士の一般的な挨拶は、目が合ったら眉毛をピクッと上下させてそれでおしまいです。中にはあごをちょっと突き出すようにする人もいます。もし、バリ人に眉毛をピクッとされたら、同じようにピクッと返してみましょう。
　また、バリ人におみやげをあげても黙って受け取るだけで、がっかりした人もいるでしょう。これは、バリ語には気軽にお礼を述べる「ありがとう」の言葉がないこと（インドネシア語にはあります）や、習慣上、喜怒哀楽の感情を表に出すことは、はしたないと見なされる等の理由によります。
　しかし、心の中では大喜びなので心配しなくても大丈夫です。

　次回はコミュニケーションでのタブーについて紹介します。

アートセンター Art Center

ヤングアーティストを育成するデンパサールの国立芸術大学のすぐ近くに建つアートセンターは、広大な敷地の中に美術館・オープンステージなどが立ち並ぶバリ芸術の殿堂です。
毎年6月頃から1ヶ月間、アートセンターで開催されるバリ・アート・フェスティバルが非常に有名で、国内外からアーティストが訪れます。期間中は毎日日替わりで様々なパフォーマンス・イベントが行われ、バリをあげての一大祭りになります。フェスティバルのない通常の時期でもガムランや合唱の練習が行われ、敷地内を歩くと音楽の調べが聞こえてきます。併設される美術館では、伝統絵画や木彫り、銀細工などバリならではの美術品を観賞できるので、ぜひ訪ねてみましょう。

バリ植物園 Bali botanical garden

　バリの花や木々や咲き乱れる広大な庭園
　バリ植物園は1959年、ジャワ島ボゴールの植物園の分園として創られたもので、ボーヘン山の中腹を丸ごと使ったその広さは129ヘクタールにも及ぶ、バリ最大の植物園です。広大な森の中には、ラン園、薬草園など11ヶ所の庭園が配置されていて、植物園というよりは公園といった感じ。バリの若者たちの人気デートスポットにもなっています。芝生もあるので、お弁当を持っていって、ピクニック気分で楽しむのもオススメです。 植物園内に新しく登場したエコアクティビティ、ツリートップも人気。

　バドゥン川を挟んで、バドゥン市場の反対側に位置するのがクンバサリ・ショッピングセンターです。バドゥン市場は早朝から活気にあふれていますが、クンバサリの店がオープンするのは９時３０分頃から。４階建ての巨大な建物に中に、雑貨屋・工芸品・アートショップなどの数十の店舗が入っており、ローカル向けの大衆ショッピングセンターといったところです。フリーマーケットのような気分で、色んなお店を覗いたり、冷やかすだけでも楽しめます。価格は付いておらず、すべて交渉制。相場より安く買えるか、高く買わされるかはあなた次第！ただし、英語はあまり通じません。
