
ティルタエンプルは聖なる水の湧く寺院として、バリヒンドゥー教を信仰するバリ人にとっては重要な場所。10世紀~14世紀に栄えたワルマデワ王朝の遺跡。タンパクシリンに位置し、この寺の内部には尊い聖水が湧き出る泉があり、この水には病を治癒する力があると信じられており、コケに覆われた石の壁から湧き出す水を求めてたくさんの人々がこの寺院を訪れます。聖なる水は今でも泉の底から砂や小石を巻き上げながら湧き出している。 この聖なる水を引いた沐浴場が隣にあり、心身を清める為に使われたり、祈りを捧げる時に必要な聖水を汲んだりするとても重要な場所。伝説によるとインドラ神が聖水を得るために地面を突き刺して創造したという伝説があります。 水の下にある緑色の藻が、透き通った聖水にエメラルド色を与え、そして外のココナッツの木の緑の葉が水面に映り、とても神秘的に感じられます。また、この寺院には、ヒンドゥー教の三大最高神のひとりであり、「雨を司るインドラ神」より位が上の「水を司る神 ヴィシュヌ神」が祀られています。
