ゴア・ガジャ GoaGajah

　1923年に発掘された寺院遺跡で『ゴア・ガジャ』とは『象の洞窟』と言う意味です。しかし、バリ島に象がいた事実はなく、何故そう呼ばれているのか定かではないそうで、洞窟内に象の顔をした彫刻ガネーシャ像があるからと言う節が有力です。入口から真っ暗な通路を、恐る恐る手探りで進んで行くと、やがて左手に小さな裸電球に照らし出された、高さ80ｃｍほどのガネーシャ像が祀られている。それぞれのリンガ像は、ヒンドゥーの三大神、シヴァ、ヴィシュヌ、ブラフマを表しており、更に下部を小さな８体のリンガ像に囲まれています。また、洞内には、他にも様々な宗教的な彫刻が残されており、全部で15ある横穴は、かつて僧が瞑想をしたり、或いは睡眠をとった場所だと言われてます。洞窟前の広場には、６人の女神ウィデャダリが彫られた沐浴場が、ほぼ完全な状態で残ってます。

The having a bath place where goddess [ui;deya;dari] of six people was carved is almost complete and it remains in the plaza in front of the cave.
